Mirage
Mirage is a centralised randomisation system providing 24/7 randomisation services for clinical trials, which can be accessed through a web-based interface and an automated telephone service. The system was launched in May 2008 following several months of collaborative development and testing with the Clinical Trials Research Unit at The University of Sheffield. Mirage is the preferred randomisation service for all new trials managed by the CTRU and is currently in use at over twenty sites across the United Kingdom to support five trials.
Mirage provides a fully automated randomisation process, including support for instant emergency unblinding, and is ideal for trials distributed over multiple sites. It is a complete randomisation solution with features including randomisation list generation and management, reporting for a variety of purposes at different blinding levels, comprehensive role-based access control, immediate email notifications for important events and generation of audit log entries for all actions. The system is highly robust due to the use of mirrored servers which enable immediate recovery to a standby server in the unlikely event of a failure.
