Available Positions
Apprentice Developer (Current Student)
This position is available to a current student studying a masters degree in the Department of Computer Science at The University of Sheffield, and is offered during the summer vacation following the second year and/or third year of the degree. The focus is on building their skills and experience whilst collaborating with our team on a number of software projects.
Requirements:
» Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
» Knowledge of one or more dynamic programming languages.
» Experience with CSS, HTML and Javascript.
» Knowledge of database design and source control.
Desirable:
» Experience with Ruby on Rails.
» Experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.
Duration: 15 weeks fixed term.
Location: Sheffield, United Kingdom.
Working Pattern: Full time, Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week (excluding lunch breaks).
Notice Period: Four weeks.
Salary: £300 per week.
Leave: 10 days, plus all UK public holidays.
Hardware Provided: Apple desktop or laptop.
Training Provided: Mentoring from senior developers.
Note: Shorter durations (minimum 12 weeks) and part time working patterns (minimum 3 days per week) will be considered on request.
Apprentice Developer (Recent Graduate)
This position is suitable for an individual who has recently completed their masters degree level education in computer science, software engineering or a similar discipline, and is now seeking to gain experience in the software development industry in a role with potential for progression.
Requirements:
» Educated to masters degree level in a relevant discipline.
» Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
» Experience with one or more dynamic programming languages.
» Experience with CSS, HTML and Javascript.
» Knowledge of database design and source control.
Desirable:
» Experience with Ruby on Rails.
» Experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.
» Work experience in software development industry (minimum of six months).
Duration: Six months fixed term, possibility of extension and/or progression to permanent.
Location: Sheffield, United Kingdom.
Working Pattern: Full time, Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week (excluding lunch breaks).
Notice Period: One month.
Typical Salary: £17,000-£20,000 per annum, according to experience.

This position is suitable for an individual who has gained some experience in the software development industry, and is now seeking to further develop their skills in a role that encourages their professional development.
Requirements:

» Experience with one or more dynamic programming languages.
» Experience with CSS, HTML and Javascript.
» Knowledge of database design and source control.
» Knowledge of Behaviour Driven Development and/or Test Driven Development.
» Work experience in software development industry (minimum of one year).
Desirable:
» Experience with Ruby on Rails.
» Experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.
» Experience in Linux server administration.
» Work experience in medical and/or health research sectors.
Duration: Permanent, subject to six months probationary period.

This position is suitable for an individual who has experience in the software development industry where they have developed a good set of skills, and is now seeking to widen their experience in a role that involves working with or leading a team to deliver substantial projects.

» Experience with one or more dynamic programming languages.

» Knowledge of database design and source control.
